The pictures which the author says were inspired by Jan Van Eyck and other great Renaissance masters are exquisite The story, however, is uninspired and monotonous, about a boy who follows the Magi to Bethlehem and gives Christ a Christmas tree covered with the remnants of the gifts the many other visitors to the stable brought I thought I might want to add it to my Christmas book collection, but I ll pass.

A work of art, the author admits this book came about from his lifetime of studying Renaissance paintings and the Italian masters The subject matter is kind, but not so touching it s painful, as sometimes happens around chirstmas i.e much pleasant than something like the littlest donkey The artwork is so beautiful I ll be tracking a few copies down on to give as gifts.

Exquisite illustrations and a great use of building repetition I was a little disappointed in the ending, however, having expected the boy s gift to be somehow less beautiful but meaningful The story adds to the tale of the three wise men visiting Jesus to bestow their gifts with a long line of other figures, picked up along the way, also trekking to the manager to offer their best.

Nicely paced story in the style of a folktale Gorgeous mixed media paintings in the styles of old masters such as Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden and Pieter Brueghel the Elder And, like many Renaissance painters have done, the setting for the story is the Renaissance period, even though it is a Nativity story.

Good story with exquisite illustrations I would definitely add this to any family s collection of Christmas books.
