What do you get when you read a Karen Witemeyer book You get an unforgettable great read When an eccentric scientist,Darius meets hard headed and totally stubborn Nicole he just expects her to be a run of the mill secretary employee to him They end up falling in love among chaos, danger and tender moments This book was outstanding my only regret is I hadn t had a chance to read it sooner True love will prevail

Darius Thornton Tongue tied Socially inept Heir of a major shipping operation And haunted by a steamship explosion that has left him sleepless, exiled from his family, and obsessed with finding a way to improve the safety of steamboat travel Or die blowing himself up in the process of boiler related experimentation.Nicole Renard Finishing school dropout Rattlesnake slayer Carries a knife in her garter Totally broke Stranded And in need of cash quickly The only plausible job in this particular riverboat town happens to be as a secretary for a man who has a reputation of blowing things up.Perfect.Loved Darius And I really enjoyed Nicole s impact on Darius The historical background dealing with the safety issues of the early steamboat industry was intriguing and helped the book stand out Always fun to learn something while falling in love with the characters.

About the Book When Nicole Renard returns home to Galveston from an eastern finishing school, she s stunned to find her father in ill health Though she loves him, he s only ever focused on what she s not Not male Not married Not able to run their family business, Renard Shipping.Vowing to secure a suitable marriage partner, Nicole sets out with the Renard family s greatest treasure a dagger personally gifted to Nicole s father by the pirate Jean Lafitte Many believe the legend that the dagger is the source of all Renard Shipping s good fortune, though Nicole is sure her father s work ethic and honorable business practices are the keys to their success Before she can board the steamer to New Orleans, Nicole finds her father s rivals the Jenkins brothers on either side of the gangplank, ready to grab her and steal the dagger Quickly, she decides to instead travel north, to Liberty, Texas, where she can decide what to do next.Darius Thornton needs a secretary someone to help him get his notes in order Ever since the boiler explosion aboard the Louisiana, Darius has been a man obsessed He will do anything to stop even one steamship disaster The pretty young socialite who applies for the job baffles him with her knowledge of mathematics and steamships He decides to take a risk and hire her, but he s determined her attractive face and fancy clothes won t distract him from his important research. The job offer comes at exactly the right time for Nicole With what Darius is paying her, she ll be able to afford passage to New Orleans in mere weeks But Mr Thornton is so reclusive, so distant, so unusual He can create complex scientific equations but can t remember to comb his hair And his experiments are growing and dangerous Still, there are undeniable sparks of attraction between them But Nicole is leaving soon, and if she marries, it must be to a man who can manage a shipping empire Darius certainly doesn t fit that description And the Jenkins brothers have not given up on kidnapping Nicole and seizing the Lafitte dagger for themselves My Review Karen Witemeyer became a new favorite author for me when I first read Stealing the Preacher and Karen has done it again This book is utter perfection You get a history lesson on steam ships and boilers Steam boilers explode, so watch out Nicole is a knife wielding pirate s daughter, well sort of, and Darius is the handsome and eccentric scientist Not long after working together they both discover romantic feelings toward each other.I thought the pacing of Full Steam Ahead was great, even the pacing of the romance was great I ve seen in other reviews of people complaining the romance was too fast However, you must take into consideration the time period Back in those days couples didn t date like we do today Romance was much fast paced, they didn t wait years to get married Most likely they would get married months or a year into the relationship Another complaint was they decided each other was the one after their first kiss I, myself find that very believable I know of many couples who married after love at first sight or first kiss and they have been happily married for many years I envy living in these time periods where people still believed in love at first sight or first kiss I truly believe these things can happen and I hope it happens to me End of rant lol I found Full Steam Ahead to be the perfect historical romance read and I will recommend it to everybody who is a historical fan.

I ended up really enjoying this one I loved our main characters Nicole and Darius, they made the book for me I liked them on their own, but together they were perfect They had great chemistry and it was just fun to watch their love story unfold Nicole pushes herself to be the best Being an only child and a woman has left her feeling insecure She has done everything she can to try and earn her father s respect, but still feels she isn t quite good enough When an opportunity arises for her to help secure her father s happiness and save their family business she jumps at the chance Her plans go awry and she ends up seeking employment with a reclusive scientist, Darius Thornton Darius is fighting his own personal demons and has hidden himself away from family and friends and wants to stay focused on his work When Nicole arrives on his doorstep he has no idea the changes his life is about to take I thought this was a fun story Both characters are very strong willed and intelligent I liked that they didn t fall victim to the usual misunderstandings that sometimes happen in these type stories They actually use their intelligence, which was refreshing I thought Nicole was a bit intimidating, she could do everything and was so smart Like I mentioned before, they have great chemistry, which really made the book for me While the historical elements history of steamship boilers is interesting and worked into the story well, its really the romance and relationships that I enjoy reading about I will say the historical elements were well written and I never felt like I was reading a boring text book, the details came to life and felt applicable to the story Anyway, another great book by Ms Witemeyer I love her writing, characters and fun settings I would highly recommend this one.ContentRomance CleanViolence MildReligious Mild subtle Christian elements, felt true to characters and not preachy.

Full Steam Ahead was such a good read I ve read several of Karen Witemeyer s books and while this one wasn t as funny as some of the others, it was a great story I loved how Nicole went into hiding while trying to earn enough money to travel to her original destination That added some suspense because you didn t want the bad guys to find her.I also loved the characters and romance It was so sweet I hope these characters are in future books stories as I can t wait to see what happens next in their lives. All in all, a sweet, fun read and one I recommend if you enjoy historical romances It was very entertaining and I can t believe it took me this long to read I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

If you are looking for a light read, Full Steam Ahead is a good choice While not as much comedy as I ve experienced in other Karen Witemyer novels, it s a solid read.

Age Appropriate For 16 and up for romance Best for Ages 18 and upI keep expecting Witemeyer to come out with a book that I think is just okay, not amazing Yet every time, she manages to wow me with yet another awesome story Full Steam Ahead impressed me on so many levels the history, the setting, the characters, and, the thing that defines every Witemeyer book and sets her above so many authors, the strong faith element.Full Steam Ahead was a bit well steamy than some of Witemeyer s other books There were several kissing scenes in this book and, often, a book with as much kissing as this one would have gotten a star knocked off for my personal tastes, but this one maintained five stars.I liked Nicole form the first moment I started reading about her She is so smart and sassy, yet I was surprised that she also maintained her femininity, proving Witemeyer s skill and ability to break the molds Nicole was an endearing character, and I hope that Witemeyer writes a prequel about her someday.Darius was such a heart breaking character His pain felt so real and his quest so understandable He was a perfect match for Nicole Most authors miss the mark when it comes to obsessed broken characters However, Darius was very life like and lovable.About half way through the book, I thought that this was going to be the first Karen Witemeyer book without a strong faith element, and I was disappointed However, just a short chapter or so later, the message hit and it hit hard I was near tears How she wove the threads into the story without me realizing it, I don t know, but it was awesome.I highly recommend this book to older girls who love historical romance, strong faith, and endearing characters.I received this book from Bethany House in exchange for my honest review I was under no obligation to write a positive review The opinions in this review are entirely my own.

Okay, my friends will probably look at my 4 star rating and go, Whaaaa Yes, just like the minion in Despicable Me But let me explain, and don t let the fact that I didn t give it 5 stars fool you Full Steam Ahead is a wonderful book that I thoroughly enjoyed I mean, it s Karen Witemeyer How could it not be great You ve heard me say how much I sometimes envy her writing talent, and this book is no exception It was a little different in that it didn t have the typical Western feel of her others, which most of the time centered around ranches Maybe I missed that a little, but this storyline was still fascinating.I very much enjoyed the characters, although I m not sure I loved Nicole and Darius, which is why I gave it 4 stars One thing I ve learned about myself is that if I don t love the guy, there s a good chance I won t love the book I don t know why it s the guy who matters most to me, but that s just how it is Darius took me a bit to warm up to, and even though I really liked him by the end, I didn t absolutely adore him like I did Crockett, Levi, and Neill in the other books But that s just my personal taste, so don t judge the book on that Nicole and Darius were a great, as well as amusing, pair to read about and watch fall in love. The thing is, Karen Witemeyer is so great at writing that even if I don t personally connect with some of the characters, I still love reading the story She s truly a master at writing historical romance All of her settings and characters are so vivid, and the romance is always a delight I highly recommend this book as well as any of her previous ones I received this book free from Bethany House in exchange for my honest review.

What I LovedOnce again, Witemeyer doesn t disappoint with her latest hilarious, well researched, and unique Christian fiction release With the customary wit that landed her on my list of favorite authors when I first read Head in the Clouds, she than pleased this reader with Full Steam Ahead The hero is haunted by a tragedy in his past the heroine is determined to secure her future Both think they have things well in hand, the situation under control, until their blossoming love throws them both for a loop. This book is funny, true to the times, romantic, and has just enough spiritual depth and lesson learning thrown in that I love it for its subtlety Nicole is the type of intelligent, spunky miss perfect for pulling scientist Darius out of his obsession and he is just the type of determined man to rescue her from the threat against her life and her family s legacy. Why I Recommend This BookI was expecting a different ending But I didn t mind at all that Full Steam Ahead ends with a surprising resolution I didn t see coming If you like real life romances with a touch of damsel in distress, you re going to love this latest release from the talented Karen Witemeyer.
