Heart In Wire by RL Griffin5 stars“The wire that sueezed his heart was painful on a normal day but he’d punctured it and now he was bleeding the fuck out”Firstly I would highly recommend that you read the By A Thread series before reading this book if you have not done so already By A Thread Tension and Seamless Heart In Wire is Patrick’s version of events during those three books This is in no way whatsoever a re telling of the series it is so much This book is extremely insightful; this book will make you reassess everything you thought you knew Opinions will change alliances will change everything will change We get Patrick’s back story and his story after El there was still so much to learn about Patrick GreerSo there was I thinking that the amazing By A Thread series was complete yet I always thought that there were a few characters that still had a story to be told one of them being Patrick So you can imagine my excitement when RL Griffin announced that in fact Patrick’s voice wanted to be heard her head was swimming with his story and his comments and she needed to put pen to paper In all honesty I have felt a plethora of emotions towards Patrick I liked him felt sorry for him admired him pitied him I hated him and my heart broke for him The friendship that he and El shared was beautiful but we know how that ended up yes he did screw it up royally but he had his reasons and it was those reasons that I wanted answered I wanted to know why he chose the path that he did I wanted to know his reasoning’s how he justified himself but over I just wanted to know the “real” Patrick I knew there was to the man and after we had ended the By A Thread series with killer scenes that decimated my heart for him I actually felt sorry for him and this actually tore my heart in two because I loved George but I couldn’t help feel sorry for Patrick Although El reciprocated his love to a certain extent and I do believe you can love two people he was not the path El chose and by reading I could tell that this destroyed him and it destroyed me tooPatrick what can I say El was “his person” I always knew deep down that he loved her he went above and beyond what any friend would have done given the circumstances no matter what Patrick was always there for her I think that when reading the BaT series you are so wrapped up in El’s story and living what she went through and endured you don’t actually see her selfish side and this is highlighted throughout this book I saw El with different eyes in this book and I didn’t like it I didn’t want to see her that way but with what she going on in her life you kind of understood she had to look out for numero uno It is only after reading Patrick’s side of the same story that you understand the mixed signals and his confusion this was by no means one way traffic and El was forever reeling him in and then letting him go All I could think about throughout this book was the pain that Patrick was going through watching the woman that he was in love with completely and unconditionally falls in love with somebody else and move on My heart bled and my eyes wept Billy in his moments of genius summed this up perfectly but this is so true and for me was the killer line“You’re holding her hand because you want to; she’s holding yours because she needs to”Finally Patrick thinks he has the opening that he has always wanted what he dreamt of getting and yet again he was used and tossed aside whilst the circumstances were not the best and you could say that Patrick took advantage it meant so much to him it was the culmination of years of all encompassing love for El and he finally thought he had “his person” but alas no His pain and his torment flooded the pages I crieda lotP is for pain; Patrick goes through it all in this book especially mentally Pain at keeping secrets pain with his conscience pain through Stella’s rejection pain with the aftermath and pain in griefA is for alliances his friendship with Billy is priceless he is just who Patrick needs and we further see their dynamic throughout this book I must say I love Billy New alliances especially with Jesse these two together were a kind of a “dream team” they fed off each other their friendship was needed on both sides and it was treasured they are kind of kindred spirits They all had one thing in common their love for El and their need to protect her no matter the cost or the conseuencesT is for Truth the truth always hurts and none so than in this book there are lots of truths that are exposed the whys explain a lot and you could see that Patrick was stuck between a rock and a hard place and the longer they stayed a lie the harder it was to tell the truth Truth of feelings and emotions Patrick spilled them El rejected them painful to read painful to understand my heart and head were tormentedR is for Retribution and none so for Jamie but and it is a big BUT I actually felt for Jamie in this book before he went crazy His phone calls to Patrick were heart breaking again you see another side and you can’t help but feel sorry for him but the undercover work changeth the man and the only way Jamie would be stopped was deathI is for Intimacy Patrick tries to overcome his rejection but cannot seem to take that next step no matter how hard he tries It takes a while for him to put himself out there again and while you are happy that he does you can’t help but feel he is settling for second best You want him to have a happy ever after he certainly deserves it but has El permanently scarred his heart? At least he may have found his wire cutters“She’s the wire and you are the bolt cutters I needed”C is for a Clean Slate he needs to move on and does so out of necessity he could not survive being around El so he goes for a complete black out El becomes Voldemort she who shall not be named This I could understand but there was so much he needed to know and again when they are reunited it is painful extremely painfulK is for Karma there is a lot of it dished out in this book I was happy with the ending I knew in my heart of hearts El was meant to be with George but I couldn’t help but have wild thoughts as to how I could get my way As tortured as I was this book made me switch allegiances from George to Patrick something I never thought was possibleIn summary RL Griffin nailed this one never has her writing been so emotive I lived and breathed Patrick’s pain in this book and this is my favourite book of hers so far I love a book that makes me “feel” and this certainly did that in spades The growth in RL Griffin’s writing is clear as day and I am so glad that while trawling Goodreads I came across By A Thread This is one series where the characters have become my friends they are like a family and I am incredibly lucky to have been on this roller coaster of a journey with them I still feel there are stories to be told especially Jesse and Billy and I know Millie will have a tale to tell I am not ready to see them go so will be hounding RL Griffin to continue That is the beauty of this series all the characters have burrowed themselves into my heart and not many authors have achieved thatOne thing I will leave you with is we still have humour; this scene had me cracking upSo as you can see this side of the room is newly decorated I call it ‘police tape chic’ And do admire the blood splatter and brains on the wall—not everyone has such modern art in their home Though I think I may need to do some redecorating

So we all know that I am a HUGE fan of RL Griffin and the By A Thread Series It was this A Love Affair with Books Blog that recommended By A Thread Book 1 to me this time last year and I was instantly hooked Having devoured the entire series I was so excited when I learned that the delish Patrick was getting a book of his own His side of the story needed to be heard and I am so happy that RL listened to the voices in her head in this case Patrick and put pen to paper and a HOT dude on the cover artworkHeart in Wire is not a re telling of the By A Thread series through Patrick’s eyes It’s so much We get to learn new aspects of Stella's story through Patrick's eyes But first Should you read the rest of the series before you read this book? I would say YES Heart In Wire can be read as a standalone but my personal recommendation would be to read the whole series Four books with Patrick in it sounds like a good idea to meIn Heart in Wire we learn a lot about Mr Patrick Greer RL Griffin's fabulous writing style once again captures the reader and keeps you turning page after page after page Sometimes in books where the story is told from the male point of view there can be a tendency where the male character comes off as whiny has grown a mangina and all he needs to ‘man up’ is the woman he lusts after to make his life complete This is NOT the case in Heart In Wire Griffin does such a wonderful job with Patrick’s story She tells it as it is She allows Patrick to be a ‘real man’ and yes in touch with his feelings but not in an irritating whiny way He has his own demons to deal with yet he put them all aside to help El through her trauma There are hidden depths to Mr Patrick Greer and only by reading Heart In Wire will you learn what they holdRL Griffin not only gives us Patrick in HIW she also gives us of our favourite characters from the seriesGeorge – who has acuired a new pseudonym ‘Fking George’Jesse ever generous an unlikely ally and friend to PatrickJamieJack what a fker – but he wasn’t always the twisted sadistic person we know from the seriesWe see a different side of Millie she’s sexier and sassier around Patrick and thankfully just as charming and hilarious as always Billy shone through in this book for me He’s the dark horse of the series and fully deserves his own novel Billy is wise unassuming yet fully aware of everything and everyone around him and picks up on the tiniest of things about Patrick sometimes before Patrick is even aware of them ‘You’re holding her hand because you want to; she’s holding yours because she needs to’Stella’s ‘assholeness’ became apparent to me in this book than the rest of the series Don’t get me wrong I adore her but she is inherently a selfish person what survivor isn’t? But seeing her story through Patrick’s eyes he doesn’t think she’s an asshole BTW unravels another side to her character that I didn’t see or chose not to see in the other booksBackground characters such as Frank El’s Dad and Patrick’s family Trav Trina and Karen Greer all contribute to telling his side of the story and in turn we learn something new about Patrick through his relationships with each of them Patrick's story is seriously amazing Parts of HIW are heart breaking; The wire that sueezed his heart was painful on a normal day but he’d punctured it and now he was bleeding the f outBut it is peppered with hilarious one liners and funny insights It’s not all doom and gloom uite the opposite the ‘sister mother’ scene is laugh out loud funnyHeart In Wire is a MUST READ It's simply fanfeckingtastic 1010 starsEmma

Sometimes people have to fall to learn to watch out for themselvesI was so privileged to once again beta for RL Griffin for this amazing seriesHeart in Wire is unlike anything she has ever written Its Patricks story but don't let that put you off it's not your typical story from another characters point of view it answers any uestions you may have had from the BaT series and puts you in Patricks shoes feeling every raw emotion and watching his heart bleed outWe get to see of Patricks past his relationship with his family and his friendship with both Jamie and Billy You also get the full inside scoop of what happened between Patrick and Jamie after Jamie went undercover How Patrick was left with Stella a beautiful stranger who fell apart in his arms and crept deep into his heartBilly features uite a bit in HIW and I just adore him So much so that I think Billy needs his own book He has a story of his own that's just waiting to be toldBilly really steps up and is there for Patrick he's smart and funny and cares so much for the family he has found in Patrick and StellaOne of my favorite powerful uotes in the book which there are so many is when Billy turns to Patrick and says You're holding her hand because you want to; she's holding yours because she needs to Goose bumpsThe relationship between Patrick and Stella from his point of view really changed how I felt about him In the BaT series I really felt sorry for him but in HIW I fell in love with him I needed Patrick to be loved and to have his own HEA that's when we meet Marley She is so different from Stella She is a breath of fresh air and exactly what Patrick needs Heart in Wire had me wanting to punch someone in the face throw my kindle crawl into a ball and be cuddled had me sobbing and then laughing so much It really is a brilliant book and if you've read the BaT series I would really encourage you to read it It's not even uestionable RL Griffin has once again delivered a hands down 5 star read

I truly cannot express how much the BaT series means to me and HIW was just incredible It's an absolute must read and one that I couldn't wait to get my hands on What can I say about Patrick's story? Patrick is the type of friend we all want He's extremely loyal and that was evident when he was given the task not by choice to help Stella cope with the loss of her fiancé Jamie From the beginning Patrick has been sort of a silent hero He has to tell Stella that her fiancé is dead and deal with her many stages of grief He held her stayed strong for her was a friend a liaison and protector All while falling deeply in love with her sigh One constant for Stella is Patrick He's her rock and she leaned and depended on him for everything She uickly became his person I enjoyed HIW because we get Patrick's feelings his despair sadness and agony I felt his heartbreak I also found myself feeling a little anger toward Stella for always needing him and not considering his feelings I suspected Patrick's feelings for Stella early on but RL Griffin laid them out flawlessly and with such deep emotion in HIW I went from wanting to comfort and console Patrick to wanting to literally jump him and all the sexiness that he is You're holding her hand because you want to; she's holding yours because she needs to I loved hearing his side of the story and never did it feel repetitive Yes I know the story very well but this book added such insight and revealed relationships that we weren't fully aware of prior It's emotional deep sexy but also very funny at times I particularly enjoyed learning about Patrick and Jamie and their conversations during the flashbacks It definitely gives the reader a better understanding of how Jamie evolved into the man he became after going under I can't go without mentioning Jesse who ended up being such a support and friend for Patrick As well as Millie boy did I love her and of course Billy They were all such a major part of Patrick's story and have evolved so much over the series These characters truly feel like friends to me and I already miss them So yes I freaking LOVED this story Patrick is dear to me as well as this story as a whole This is one of my top favorite series that I find recommending often

The By a Thread series is a well written completely well rounded story The series can get you crying one second and laughing the next with uite a few jaw dropping moments in the middle of it all When you’re reading Heart in Wire be prepared for that emotional roller coaster ride to continue Heart in Wire is related to us from Patrick’s point of view Patrick is a profound character His love for Stella is so intense that it actually seems unhealthy “Patrick tried to unwrap the twisted wires that had embedded itself in his heart but sometimes he was certain he wouldn’t live through it The tissue had grown in around it He felt if he tried to unwrap his heart now the damage would be worse”If that uote doesn’t scream out unhealthy obsession I don’t know what else wouldThe story goes on to show how Patrick comes to terms with where life has taken him He recognizes what he needs to do in order to become a person that is good happy and whole again Patrick accomplishes this with a lot of help from his friends and yes even Stella Billy for one becomes the man of reason and depth This help clearly guides Patrick to start making better life decisionsI had high expectations when it came to this installment of the series It’s such a satisfying heartwarming story of awareness one that will not disappoint anyone who reads it RL Griffin is a excellent author Her ability to imagine these complex characters and give us a story that we never ever want to end is brilliant I cannot wait to read what she comes up with next
